What: The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies? (NAMIC) 114th Annual Convention

Who: 1500 executives from a broad cross section of the property/casualty insurance industry from national writers to regional and small companies

When: Sept. 20?23, 2009

Where: Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Atlanta, Ga.

Additional Details: Property/casualty insurance industry executives will come together to discuss insurance regulation and systemic risk regulation in the post-financial crisis environment, investments and the economic outlook, rating agencies, leadership and technology among other issues.

NAMIC will also be installing the new board of directors and a new chairman, John T. Hill, president/COO of Magna Carta Companies. Members of the media will have the opportunity to interview Hill as well as the outgoing chairman, Bruce Thomas, president/CEO of Heartland Mutual Insurance Company in Iowa. Also available for an interview will be Chairman-elect Sandy Parrillo, president/CEO of the 209-year-old Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Company. NAMIC president/CEO Chuck Chamness and several other top NAMIC staff will also be on hand. Exclusive interviews are available.

Also at the convention, NAMIC will be releasing a major public policy paper titled The Financial Crisis, Systemic Risk, and the Future of Insurance Regulation, written by Scott E. Harrington, Alan B. Miller Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Harrington will also be offering a speech on his paper during the general session on Tuesday. Immediately following the session, members of the media will have the opportunity to interview him.

The event will also feature Pulitzer Prize-wining investigative journalist Bob Woodward as the keynote speaker on Monday. The featured speakers on Wednesday will include CNN political analyst Donna Brazile and former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino in a point/counterpoint discussion on the current state of politics, the media, and the messages and policies coming out of the Obama administration and Congress.
